Principal Software Engineer - Backend

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to architect and build large-scale distributed systems powering India's payment infrastructure. You will lead critical technical initiatives, mentor senior engineers, and drive architectural decisions impacting millions of users. This is a high-visibility role requiring deep expertise in building low-latency, high-throughput systems.

• Design and architect scalable backend systems handling billions of transactions with sub-second latency
• Lead technical strategy for critical services including payments, settlements, and risk management
• Drive technical excellence through code reviews, design discussions, and mentoring senior engineers
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency at massive scale
• Collaborate with product and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Establish engineering best practices and contribute to platform capabilities

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong focus on backend systems
• Expert-level proficiency in Java, Scala, or Go with deep understanding of JVM internals
• Extensive experience building distributed systems using microservices, event-driven architecture
• Strong knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and caching systems (Redis, Memcached)
• Experience with messaging systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ and cloud platforms AWS/GCP
• Proven track record of leading large-scale technical projects and driving architectural decisions
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex production issues
